Competition

Reel Journeys is a competition run by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity, which gives all secondary schools in Scotland the chance to show their creative video skills and win great prizes for both schools and students.

The competition asks for films of a maximum three minutes in length on the subject of 'My Journey to School'. Films should show the things you see everyday, how the journey to school could be made better, how you could reduce your carbon footprint and what method(s) of transport you rely on.

Sustrans is the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity, working on practical projects so that people can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.

2010 winner

Congratulations to Cahli Young, Nicole Crawley and Sarah Garrity from James Hamilton Academy in Kilmarnock who are the winners of the 2010 Sustrans Reel Journeys film making competition set up with Scottish Screen. They win a video camera for their school and a video camera each.

Nicole Crawley said: “The project was good because it made me think about how I use transport. I now walk to school three times a week and sometimes cycle. Making the film helped me recognise my own contribution to pollution and what I can do to help.”

Calhi Young said: “The project helped me learn about pollution and healthier and safer ways to get to school. I enjoyed the actual filming and now think about the pollution my travel creates.”
