Film-making involves five main stages:

development

Before pre-production can commence, you will need a script, story or idea, and have established the key players in your team.

pre-production

Involves:

  • Planning
  • Getting organised
  • Finding funds, resources, locations, props, costumes etc.
  • Sorting your cast and crew
  • Anything else you need before the camera rolls.

production

Is the: staging the action, filming it, drawing the animation, recording the sound etc etc.

We got the wrong play, the wrong director, the wrong cast. Where did we go right? - Max Bialystock in The Producers

post-production

Happens after the film has been shot and includes :

  • Editing
  • Adding music and sound effects
  • Titles credits etc.
